Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Fossevandring Geiranger, calling it a 'must-do' for its stunning waterfall and incredible fjord views. The unique modern staircase design is praised for bringing you close to nature's power. While the climb is invigorating, some find the water mist intense, and it can get crowded during peak times.

"This is a simple walk right on the edge of town that just gets better and better the higher up you go.
The walk begins at the camping area just beyond the small supermarket and the first falls can be seen from a relatively easy, and flat path.
After that you take a series of staircases up to each new set of cascades, and as you climb higher the falls gets better, as does the view back over the village to the fjord.
The final cascade is the smallest, and from here you can head up to the hotel and cafe, or turn around and head straight back down, enjoying the great views of the fjord."

Stephen Spencer

"Numerous reviewers have already described Geiranger's wonderful waterfall walk in some detail. I’ll just add (or repeat) a few bits of info along with photos.

1. We avoided summer (mid-July) crowds by doing the walk in the evening -- after 8pm when parking is free but still daytime brightness. As the photos show, we saw only a dozen or so other visitors over the hour we spent enjoying this walk.

2. To get to the waterfall walk from Joker, head to the campervan park and turn left along the paved road (Homlungsvegen), then stay left onto the wide gravel path next to the rapids. You soon pass the picturesque concrete building beside the rapids; the metal stairway begins soon after.

3. Parts of the walk hug the rapids and falls, so visitors might get sprayed with water.

4. We started from the waterfront (not Fjord centre), applying the old rule that hikes are more fun when they begin going up, then return going down. The walk isn't strenuous, but climbing 327 steps up does require some effort.

5. We visited the fjord centre the next day as a separate event. That made the waterfall walk more leisurely and gave us ample time the next day to enjoy the fjord centre and the nearby short woods walks.

6. Return by the same waterfall walk, unless it is crammed with visitors. The main Geiranger road is narrow, busy, and doesn't have a footpath. (I drove up and down it several times.)"

"Absolutely, Kimberly! Here’s a mid-length review of Fossevandring, the waterfall walk in Geiranger—perfect for a travel journal or social media post:

💦 Fossevandring – Nature’s Staircase in Geiranger

Fossevandring is a stunning waterfall walk that blends wild Norwegian nature with sleek, modern architecture. The trail follows the powerful Storfossen waterfall via a series of metal staircases and platforms, offering dramatic views and the soothing roar of cascading water. It’s an easy-to-moderate hike, taking about 20–30 minutes depending on your pace, and is accessible from the town center or the Norwegian Fjord Centre.

What makes it special? You’re not just walking beside a waterfall—you’re practically in it. The spray kisses your skin, and the see-through grating underfoot adds a thrilling touch. Along the way, you’ll find photo-worthy viewpoints, benches for reflection, and even nighttime lighting for a romantic stroll.

Whether you’re arriving by cruise or staying nearby, Fossevandring is a must-do experience that captures the essence of Geiranger’s natural beauty."
