What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Norwegian Fjord Center for its engaging and professional exhibits that vividly portray the history and geology of the Geirangerfjord. The informative film and compelling stories of fjord life are highlights, and the scenic waterfall walk to the center is highly recommended. Some find the no-photography rule a drawback, and tickets must be purchased online.

"The Norwegian Fjord Centre is a visual and experiential delight. Very professional displays with replication of old buildings, shops, early mountain road, even an old docked ship rolling back and forth. These constructions were very effectively embedded with their surroundings with the aid of wall-sized photos and paintings. The video describing the fjord's geological history was informative and visually engaging.

Not to be missed are the many stories about fjord life, such as the farm where some of the best ale was brewed, the massive landslide that took many lives in an isolated community a century ago, and how some mountain farmers kept the taxman away.

Every turn brought a different aspect of fjord life, from mountainside farming to deadly landslides (including a map showing all of the major avalanche catastrophes!).

We took much more than an hour to walk through the museum, and could have taken longer to enjoy more of the artifacts, photos, and videos. And although visiting in early afternoon in July, for some reason it wasn't busy.

We enjoyed a mid-day meal at the Fjord Centre cafe on two days (our accommodation was a short walk from there).

We visited in late July 2025."

"A comfortable center where you can find a lot of information about history of the area and the Norwegian people living there.
A disadvantage of the place is that you can't take any pictures of the exposition. So all is kept in your memories. It's not bad, it's just the approach that the center goes by.
If you really want to see everything, reserve about 2 hours of your time.
The tickets can only be bough online, so don't count with any cash desk at the center. At the same time, nobody was checking them.
There is a café and souvenir shop right at the entrance with some local products."

"The Norwegian Fjord Centre in Geiranger is a gem! Engaging exhibits and a film showcase fjord life and history. The café and shop are charming, with a fun playground for kids. The 327-step hike up from Geiranger along Storfossen is a great, scenic trek with stunning views. A must-visit."
