What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the San Juan del Sur Lighthouse for its absolutely breathtaking panoramic ocean views and the opportunity for whale watching. The restored site and the nearby 'El Vigía' restaurant offering delicious local cuisine are also highlights. However, some find the hike steep and the navigation via Google Maps unreliable, advising to seek local guidance.
"It's a steep but short hike up. Google maps out here is inaccurate so we initially took the wrong path, got confused, and when another guy noticed our confusion he told us that Google maps is wrong and we need to go down to the base and start elsewhere. It was too dark by then so we came back a day later for a second attempt. We walked up a long cobblestone path, saw some chickens and a pig. Not a very aesthetic hike but we got our steps in. There are a couple of decent viewpoints. When we got to the lighthouse it was like "oh! There it is". Took some photos and headed out before it got dark. We were told by a couple of people that we should leave before sundown as it's not the best area, especially for tourists. It's worth doing if you want to get some steps in and do a free activity to fill your day. Nothing special though"

"We walked this steep track in the morning. It was really beautiful. I didn't read about the man with the machete until after we got back. The directions on google maps is incorrect, go towards the fish market and look for a sign with El Vigi on it."
