What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Maruia Hot Springs is lauded as a magical, award-winning wellness destination with stunning natural beauty and excellent thermal pools. Guests praise the rejuvenating atmosphere, delicious food, and unique accommodation like glamping pods. However, some visitors note ongoing construction that can impact views and mention occasional service disorganization and extra Wi-Fi costs.
"My husband and I had a wonderful time camping overnight in our campervan at Maruia Hot Springs. I like that it's catered more for adults rather than families with young kids.
We purchased the Camp & Indulge for Two package which was great value. The included dinner and breakfast were delicious and well presented. We also did wellness classes which were included in the package; Yoga in the morning, a guided nature walk which was really lovely and a Sauna Infusion session which was really good too! Hot sauna with essential oils at about 75c then a cold water plunge, then back in the sauna again...very invigorating and relaxing! We then finished the session with a body scrub, really lovely experience all in one morning.
When we arrived late in the evening, there were heaps of sandflies everywhere which made it very uncomfortable while trying to relax in the hot pools, however the next morning there were hardly any!
There are some works currently occurring to add more pools and a larger sauna scheduled to complete mid December but all the facilities were still open and only small barriers on some paths so it did not bother us at all.
Other things we appreciated is that the pools itself were designed to feel like you're in a natural pool rather than a man-made tub, and overlooking the mountain and river. Also loved that you can use the facilities up to 1pm so you don't need to rush to get out."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Maruia Hot Springs – NZ magic at its finest
Stayed in one of the glamp pods and honestly… just outstanding. Warm, cosy sleep with that fresh alpine air, looking straight out into nature. Woke up feeling like I’d had a week off.
The location is next-level – tucked right in the Lewis Pass, that moment when you cross over and the world just slows down. The facilities are amazing, natural and perfectly in tune with the environment. Hot pools, steam, silence and the sound of the River… just what you need.
Staff were wonderful – genuine, relaxed and welcoming. You can see why both locals and travellers end up staying longer than planned.
A special spot in a magical place. Highly recommend. 🌿💧
PS already booked again 😉"

"Friendly chap on reception recently who was also informative.
I like the rustic/natural feel of the pools combined with the modern infrastructure.
Beautiful to sit under the snow-capped mountains at the moment.
VERY happy to learn they have a cold plunge pool which I had a few dips in.
The free flowing warm and cold showers were a nice addition to the ambiance.
Very good price for the time given."
