What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the immersive experience of exploring the P-821 "Heroj" class submarine, praising its preserved condition and the opportunity to see its machinery. The air-conditioned interiors are a welcome feature. However, some find the museum exhibits less substantial, and access to the submarines can be inconsistent.
"I'd give this place 5 star review over the submarines alone. While there are other items to see here, the big P-821 "Heroj" class boat is a centerpiece worth stopping by. Luckily for all the naval entusiasts, instead of being scrapped after the end of its service life, it ended here at the Naval Heritage Collection. The boat is pretty much in its original working condition, and you can take a good look at all the machinery and hardware inside. There is a guide onboard so you can seek all the info you might be interested in. Please do mind your head when inside. Right outside, there's another much smaller P-912 "Una" class boat, where you can climb to the conning tower - as far as I know, you can't go inside that one. If you get the full ticket, you can also visit the museum part of the collection, but other then a few scale models, and a few interesting submersible vehicles, there's not much else to see there. The same goes for the few pieces around the two submarines."

"Great experience to see the submarine from inside.
If it’s close please go to the museum in-front of it and they will arrange to open it.
The lady from the Museum knew a lot of details on the submarine and shared it with us and was very kind and professional.
There was air conditioning inside so although it was a hot day it was cold and nice inside"

"Museum was shut at time of visit, although able to view submarines and a few boats etc located outside for free.
Looked like they were doing work on indoor museum area. The subs are cold war era about 1970's ish. I believe from Yugoslav navy. When you walk up close realise how big these things are. The museum is a short walk from tivat marina, itself a couple miles walk, from where kemenari ferry docks ."

Exploring the Submarines: A Cold War Relic
Complementing the "Heroj" is the smaller P-912 "Una" class submarine. While you typically can't go inside this one, climbing to its conning tower offers a unique perspective and a memorable photo opportunity. These vessels, though compact, offer a tangible connection to a pivotal period in military history, providing a fascinating glimpse into the challenges and technology of underwater warfare.
Visitors should be aware that access to the submarines can be inconsistent, and it's wise to confirm opening times. Despite the lack of extensive informational boards, the sheer presence and preserved state of these vessels make them a compelling draw for naval enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.
The Naval Museum: Beyond the Boats
However, reviews suggest that the museum's exhibits might be less extensive or engaging compared to the immersive experience of the submarines. Some visitors have noted that beyond the scale models and a few submersible items, there isn't a vast amount of additional content. This means that while the museum adds to the overall collection, the primary draw remains the opportunity to explore the actual submarines.
For those with a deep interest in naval artifacts and technology, the museum provides valuable context. It's a good place to spend a bit of extra time after exploring the submarines, offering a more traditional museum experience with historical displays and representations of naval power.
