"Absolutely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The icy glacial water was refreshing as our raft flipped over, tossing us into the depths after we struck a rock. If you're an adventure seeker, you should definitely give this a shot. You won’t regret it!"

"We went for rafting here. They are charging 1800 for 16 km and it takes almost 2 hours of time. Believe me it's worth it as it has almost 5-6 rapid and they allow you to swim in river wherever water is stable. They also charge 200 for transport if you don't have vehicle to go to starting point. They charge 1500 for photos/videos from go pro camera. Please don't take 900 package if you want some adventure as it's only boating without any splash."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Ensure you book with a reputable operator who has experience with families and can provide appropriate safety gear and guidance. The provided wetsuits are crucial for comfort in the 4°C water. While the cold is a factor, the thrill of navigating gentle rapids and the stunning scenery make it a memorable experience for all ages. Always confirm age restrictions and suitability with your chosen tour provider.
💰 Budget Travelers
To save on transport, consider joining a group tour from Leh, which might include transfers. If you're traveling with friends, splitting the cost of a GoPro video package can make it more affordable. Be aware of the additional transport fee (around ₹200) if you're not driving yourself. Prioritize operators with good reviews for safety and equipment to ensure your budget doesn't compromise your experience.

The Thrill of the World's Highest Rafting
Travelers often describe the experience as exhilarating and unforgettable. The sheer altitude and the frigid water create a sensory overload that many adventure seekers crave. While the cold is a significant factor, reputable operators provide high-quality wetsuits, helmets, and life jackets to ensure safety and comfort, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in the adventure without undue worry.
Choosing the right rafting stretch is key to maximizing the thrill. While shorter trips offer a taste of the river, longer distances, such as the 36km stretch from Chilling to Sangam, promise more rapids and a more sustained adrenaline rush. This makes Zanskar River rafting a must-do for anyone seeking a truly unique and high-altitude adventure.
Navigating Costs and Logistics
Beyond the rafting fee itself, there are a few additional costs to factor in. If you don't have your own vehicle to reach the starting point in Chilling, expect to pay an extra ₹200 for transport arranged by the operators. For those wanting to capture their adventure, professional GoPro video packages are available, usually priced between ₹1500 and ₹2000 per raft. While this might seem like an added expense, many find the high-quality footage to be a worthwhile memento of their thrilling experience.
It's also worth noting that while some operators offer shorter, less adventurous 'boating' packages for around ₹900, reviewers strongly recommend opting for the longer, more rapid-filled stretches to truly experience the thrill of the Zanskar River. Booking in advance, especially during peak tourist season, is advisable to secure your spot and preferred operator.
