What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Don Daeng Island is praised for its serene beaches, authentic village life, and tranquil atmosphere, offering a genuine escape. However, some visitors caution about potential price gouging and the need for negotiation, which can detract from the experience.
"Nice island. Location is near Don Daeng village. Oneway boat ride to the island cost 50.000 KIP. Maximun 4 person onboard. Same price when boat bring you back to Don Daeng. Homestay is 30.000KIP per person / night. Dinner and breakfast cost 20.000KIP per person / meal. (Khamphoyu guesthouse owner tell prices for us). Food was good. Homestay was one big room and we sleep with three other local traveller. Some shops and restaurats. Good place to stay overnight.
But, every second one try to cheat money for you. Example tobacco cost 30.000 or 10.000. Homestay charge 30.000 for meal. Breakfast was same price. Rice porridge and bananas.
In my opinion this is a biggest problem for tourism in laos. Everywhere someone tries to cheat you.
If you go Don Daeng prepare negotiate price and still pay more. it is not surprising that tourism is declining in Laos.
Transport to Don Det every day 8pm. Cost 90.000KIP per person. That price include Ferry ticket from Ban Nagasang to Don Det.
I give only one star because we do not like cheating. This is my message for local residents."
