What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise the magical dolphin sightings and enjoyable snorkeling opportunities, highlighting the beauty of the marine park and the cultural experience on Wasini Island. However, some travelers express disappointment with the condition of the coral reefs and the amount of time spent in transit, particularly for those traveling from Mombasa.
"I had an amazing time at Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park & Reserve! The activities were incredible, from snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters to spotting dolphins and exploring the vibrant coral reefs. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place, perfect for anyone who loves nature and the ocean. Definitely a must-visit spot if you're in the area!"
David Jonathan
"I would not recommend this experience. Wasini Island is unfortunately fully littered with garbage, and the lunch stop at a local restaurant was very poor. The trip involves over an hour's drive from Mombasa, plus more than an hour by boat each way just to reach the snorkeling spot. In total, you spend around four hours in transit. We were lucky to see dolphins for about three minutes — though sightings aren’t guaranteed — and the actual snorkeling lasted only 15–20 minutes. Sadly, most of the coral is dead, and there was very little marine life to see, making the underwater experience quite disappointing. For anyone traveling from Mombasa and paying over $100 for this excursion, it's really not worth it."

"A wonderful experience. If you're early enough (7am-8am) you might be lucky enough to see some dolphins. Snorkeling is highly recommended even if you're a beginner in swimming. The guides will help you and you will not forget the amazing view of the corals"

Marine Life and Conservation
However, it's important to note that some visitors have observed that a significant portion of the coral reefs within the park may be damaged or dead. This underscores the ongoing challenges of marine conservation and the impact of environmental factors. Responsible tourism practices, such as avoiding touching coral and marine animals, are essential to help preserve the delicate ecosystem for continued enjoyment and ecological health.
Responsible tourism is key to the park's sustainability. Visitors are encouraged to be mindful of their impact, support local conservation initiatives, and choose tour operators who prioritize eco-friendly practices. By doing so, we can all contribute to the long-term health of this precious marine environment.
