What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the SL Yamaguchi steam train's nostalgic charm and the breathtaking scenery it traverses. The powerful steam engine and vintage carriages create a truly memorable journey. While the train itself is a highlight, some find the booking process can be competitive, and on-board amenities are basic.
"A modern, well-maintained, and managed JR shinkansen station along the Sanyo shinkansen line. There are a "moderate" number of options for food or snacks before the shinkansen trip, and modern bathrooms, an information desk and ticket center.
To me, what is most striking about this modern, amazingly-designed shin station is the entrance, which features walls of real plants, covering the entire surface of both walls floor to ceiling, which flow down onto floor planters. It is a striking thing to see, and worthy of slowing down and admiring this unique aspect to this shin station.
I was only passing through; transiting to the Yamaguchi JR line."

"A small Shinkansen Station where we visited in Feb 2025. However, I could ride Hello Kitty Shinkansen, beautiful 500 series, to here and take a good photo of the train.
Some store at the station that you can buy the souvenir and food."

"Shin-Yamaguchi is key to connect Yamaguchi with rest of the Japan via train. This station has both local train and shin-kansen in different platforms. There are gift shops, information centre and waiting place. At the ground floor you will also get available bus services."
