"One of the most beautiful place in Yamaguchi city considering serenity and greenery. Recommend visit in spring and autumn. The place has different outlooks in two different seasons. Although we have visited in spring I will try to visit again in autumn.
This is a little far from Yamaguchi city considering bicycle path. However, after entering the temple we become overwhelmed seeing the surrounding beauty of the garden and adjacent area.
There is a ticketing system. At first we collected two tickets for us. It is also possible to enjoy the nature of a Japanese traditional garden Inside the shrine house. They facilitate it for a comfortable sitting.
A Japanese lady also helped us to capture our couple photo. We are very great full to her generosity and kindness. My wife has a photo with her too.
It was a great trip for me and my spouse."

The Art of the Sesshū Garden
This garden is often referred to as 'Japanese Garden Version 2' in Japan, suggesting it's a significant evolution or interpretation of earlier garden styles, though it remains less crowded than its Kyoto counterparts. This relative quietude enhances the visitor's ability to connect with the garden's serene essence. The surrounding forested hills further contribute to the tranquil atmosphere, creating a secluded sanctuary. The experience is often described as overwhelming in its beauty and peacefulness, a testament to the garden's masterful design.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the garden serves as a space for meditation and introspection. The deliberate placement of elements, the subtle use of color, and the overall composition are all designed to foster a state of mindfulness. It's a place where the boundary between art, nature, and spirituality blurs, offering a unique and deeply rewarding experience for those who visit.
Experiencing Zen Aesthetics
Travelers often highlight the serene harmony they feel while observing the garden. This feeling is cultivated through the deliberate arrangement of elements, where every rock, plant, and expanse of gravel has a purpose. The garden doesn't shout for attention; instead, it whispers, inviting quiet observation and reflection. This minimalist approach is a hallmark of Zen art, aiming to strip away the non-essential to reveal underlying truths.
Beyond the garden, the temple's architecture also reflects Zen principles. The clean lines, natural materials, and integration with the surrounding landscape all contribute to a sense of understated elegance and peace. The overall experience is designed to calm the mind and foster a deeper appreciation for the beauty found in simplicity and nature.
