Timing is Everything

Mount Tsukuba is a popular day trip from Tokyo, so expect crowds, especially on weekends and during peak seasons like autumn for fall foliage. Consider visiting on a weekday to enjoy a more serene experience. The ropeway can get busy, so factor in potential wait times, particularly for the return journey.

Ropeway Comfort

While the Mount Tsukuba Ropeway offers stunning views, it lacks air conditioning or fans, making summer visits potentially uncomfortable, especially for children. Bring a handheld fan if traveling during warmer months. Clear days are best for panoramic views, including potential sightings of Mt. Fuji.

Visitors praise Mount Tsukuba for its beautiful twin peaks, scenic ropeway rides, and stunning panoramic views, especially on clear days when Mt. Fuji is visible. The vibrant azaleas in spring and autumn foliage are also highlights. Some find the ropeway uncomfortable in summer due to the lack of air conditioning and note that the return queue can be long.

"I visited this month on the 9th . My first time climbing a mountain in Japan. Mount Tsukuba Ibaraki has an adrenaline-pumping route.

"Ropeway was not too crowded, and the view was nice both ways. Apparently on clear days you can see Mt. Fuji, but it was too hazy when we visited. Ticket price isn't too expensive. Line for the return trip was longer, so keep in mind if you need to be down by a certain time.

It’s smart of them to have the exit lead through the gift shop on the way out. Watch out for your wallet! Parking lot seemed pretty spacious and was less crowded than the area around the cable car.

When we visited in late April, the azaleas by the base station were close to full bloom and very beautiful."

Rachel Boatwright

"Good enjoyment but don't go there during extreme weather conditions like summer. They don't have any AC in those ropeways not even fans. It was so very difficult for children to get in that ropeway. If you go there during summer, please bring your hand held fan, that will be a blessing. View was also not enjoyable due to this problem so choose your time wisely specially if you are planning to go there with kids"
