Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique and playful concept of the Onomatopoeia Rooftop TAD, praising its free entry and the fun, interactive installations inspired by Japanese onomatopoeia. The stunning views of Toyama City and the Tateyama Mountain Range are a significant draw, making it a delightful spot for all ages. However, some note the time limit for play and the seasonal winter closure.

"On August 13, 2025, while riding the Fugan Water Line, I was told about the garden. (Apparently, the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art, where the garden is located, once housed an amusement park, and the rooftop playground was a remnant of that tradition.) I was intrigued, so I decided to check it out!

The rooftop garden features play equipment inspired by onomatopoeic sounds and mimetic words, such as "round and round" and "whisper." Both children and adults had fun. ^ - ^

You could also see the Fugan Canal Kansui Park from the garden. ☆"

"■Onomatopoeia rooftop
An exhibit installed on the roof of the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art in Toyama City.

●A group of ornaments that look like colorful play equipment. A facility where you can play for free. There is a time limit for entering and exiting Onomatopoeia using the entrance and exit of the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art, and the rooftop appears to be closed during the winter when snow is expected.

When you enter the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art, you can enter for free if you tell us that you would like to use only the rooftop. This time I bought a ¥300 ticket for the permanent exhibition and entered.

I counted eight types of onomatopoeia. Even the naming shows its uniqueness.
①Fluffy FUWA-FUWA
②Doze UTO−UTO
③Guriguri GURU−GURU
④Smooth TSURU−TSURU
⑤Hisohiso HISO−HISO
⑥ARE-ARE
⑦Bokoboko BOKO-BOKO
⑧Puripuri PURI−PURI

◉The most popular one is the “fluffy” one that jumps up and down. There is a nice view of the Tateyama Mountain Range beyond Kansui Park from this rooftop."
