"In Kannazuki, Reiwa 7, I visited Hayachine Shrine, home to many legends and folktales about Zashiki Warashi (spirits in the form of children).
Originally founded by Ennin, the founder of the Tendai sect, Myosenji Temple, it was converted into a shrine during the Meiji era's Haibutsu Kishaku movement. The shrine venerates Mount Hayachine (a sacred mountain). Due to Ennin's influence, it's also famous for granting blessings from Kannon.
Inside the worship hall, there are auspicious fishing flags, and the temple atmosphere remains, creating a wonderful, calming space.
I was so impressed with the cute red Warashi charm I received!
The enshrined deity is Seoritsuhime, the goddess of purification and one of the Four Purification Gods. There are reportedly 23 shrines dedicated to her in Iwate Prefecture.
At the hotel I stayed at the night before, Aeria Tono, storytellers from the Tono Hometown Tourist Guide Association told us old tales (Tono Monogatari), and another person acted as our tour guide for the day, providing us with local information and fun stories, making for a very fulfilling and enjoyable tour of Iwate. I'm very grateful.
