What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Oigawa Railway for its nostalgic steam locomotive rides and the exceptional kindness of its staff, particularly during family-focused events like 'Day Out With Thomas.' While the charm of vintage trains is a major draw, some note the lack of air conditioning on certain carriages during hot summer months.
"The kindness of the staffs here almost brought me to tears. I came here alone with my two boys, a toddler and a preschooler, to ride Thomas the Train to Day Out with Thomas at Senzu Station. Thanks to the staff, we were able to have a fantastic day despite my limited Japanese and the big fat stroller. We had a tight connection to make between Kanaya and Shin Kanaya station (where you get on Thomas) and the staff at Plaza Loco were kind enough to help me store some luggage so that I don't have to carry it with me to Senzu Station. When we got back, I almost forgot to pick up those luggage and had already boarded a train bound for Kanaya station. The station master was kind enough to make the train waited for me as I dashed back into Plaza Loco to retrieve my luggage and climb back on board. For a country where punctuality is in their DNA and trains can't even be late for a minute, I have no words to describe how touched and grateful I am for all that they did for me and my sons. We had a fantastic time and would definitely come back again! Thank you!"

"I went with my grandson, who loves Thomas.
It's rare for adults to go on a trip alone, so we enjoyed learning about railways other than Thomas and feeling nostalgic.
There was a mini steam locomotive available for a fee, as well as a free mini steam locomotive (which you can back up to), and the turntable Thomas was very popular.
It seems there's parking nearby when you ride Thomas, which is convenient for families with small children.
The concession stand had a wide selection of items, and the ekiben (boxed lunches) served on the train included local specialties, which was great.
Limited edition Thomas merchandise was available for purchase on board, and PayPay was accepted. I got it. Ice cream is cash only.
The wooden Thomas train play area was very popular, with kids constantly playing there.
Even though there was a Plarail train behind it, the wooden one was more popular.
It seems there were limited edition gachapon machines.
There was also a rest area.
I rode the Thomas train to Kawane Onsen Station, and at a station along the way, a fellow train stopped, which seemed like a popular photo spot and was quite crowded.
The impressive rocking and sound were a joy.
There was no air conditioning, so I had to use a fan and open the windows, which can be tough on hot summer days."
