What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning 'Shakotan Blue' sea and the fun, interactive seagull feeding experience. The underwater observatory is a unique highlight, especially for families. However, cancellations due to weather are common, and the Japanese-only commentary might be a drawback for some.
"It was closed today (June 2nd) due to high waves unfortunately . Too bad. So we continued our driving to Cape Kamui."

"I stopped by on the Chuo Bus Shakotan Course, and if you're going, definitely take it! It's a tourist attraction, so if you don't take it, there's nothing else around. The ride takes about an hour, and you can see the beautiful blue sea up close. The speed is just right, and the sea is incredibly clear. On the way back, you can feed the seagulls bread scraps, which is really fun. (They give you a lot of bread.)"

"Arrived at 10:00 on 2025/6/19, departed from downtown Otaru at 9 am. It is recommended to check the website or call before departure to see if there is a sea trip. Buy a boat ticket first (2500 yen/person for adults, 1300 yen/person for children) and get on the boat at 10:30. There will be a guide on the boat (all in Japanese). After about 10 minutes of going out to sea, enter the cabin and see the seabed full of sea urchins! After viewing the seabed, return to the deck. The blue sea of Shakotan, the rocks on the shore, and the seagulls are really beautiful! Then it is the seagull feeding itinerary. Each person has a small ladle of toast. When you hold it in your hand, the seagulls will come and take it away. At this time, the seagulls will follow the boat. It is really fun to see the seagulls up close! (The whole journey takes about 40 minutes)"
