Reviews Summary

Ganiba Onsen is lauded for its incredibly authentic, rustic charm and its superb, milky hot spring waters, especially the secluded outdoor mixed bath. While the dated facilities and remote location are part of its appeal, some visitors find them a bit too basic. The difficulty in booking and lack of amenities like gift bags are minor drawbacks for an otherwise highly recommended traditional onsen experience. Reddit+1

"One of the 7 inns located in Nyuto Onsen. Really hard to book a room here. I loved this place so much. It’s simple and rustic compared to the other inns. Service was normal and not excessive. Food was delicious using local Akita ingredients. Even the rice was from Akita, so I ate 2 bowls at dinner and breakfast. Recommended for people who love hot springs.

I took off a star because I bought a large amount of stuff as gifts and they didn’t even have a bag or anything available to put it in. I walked out with things falling from my hands. Please fix this."

"it's a famous onsen spot and this inn is very difficult to book. i'd recommend you to book 2-3 months in advance or even 6 months if it's a peak travel season.
the facility is quite dated, it gives a very traditional ancient japanese edo feeling. the room was in a fair size but without any showing facility. this encourages people to use their public bath as well as the onsen they have. and this should be the purpose to stay!
access - driving is most preferred - there is bus service runs around to connect the main train station and the hotels/inn alliance but you should expect the bus isn't too frequent.
meals - there is meal included in the package, otherwise, you've no choice. there isn't anything around, or you plan perfectly to buy food in the supermarket and bring your own. but i'd recommend to dine with them, coz the dinner/breakfast set was great. they do provide water and tea in room but we experienced running out of drinking water at night and the front desk/kitchen was already closed.
entertainment - onsen, and nothing. we did enjoy the outdoor onsen very much.

"Their outdoor mixed bath onsen is superb, about 50m walk from the hotel, with some stairs. Hotel provided the snow boots for walk out to prevent slippery. The bath is in super nature, hot water and transparent. Very nice to dip in while snowy cold.

They also have another outdoor onsen for woman, and another indoor onsen, that they are in separate rooms, so have to wear back on to visit another pool.

The staff are nice and services well. Good dinner and breakfast set. We bought the onsen hopping pass, so we visited other daytime onsen. Very good !!!!"
