Visitors rave about the fun and unique experience of exploring Osaka by bike, praising the well-maintained bikes and friendly, English-speaking staff. The availability of recommended scenic routes and helpful gear for longer trips like the Shimanami Kaido is a significant plus. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some note that routes might pass through busy city sections towards the end.
"I had such an amazing experience here in Osaka! 🚴✨ This is definitely a must-try activity if you want to explore the city in a fun and unique way. The owner is very kind and accommodating—plus, she speaks English fluently, which makes everything so easy and comfortable.
The bikes are well-maintained and in excellent condition. They also provide helmets and essential tools, so you feel safe and fully prepared for your ride. On top of that, they have a helpful website with recommended scenic bike routes, making it simple to discover beautiful spots around Osaka.
I’ll definitely be coming back here the next time I visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an enjoyable and memorable experience in the city! 🌟"

"I hired a Bianchi and Rinko Bag from RBRJ for eight days in May and used it to ride the Shimanami Kaido and a number of other rides out from Osaka.
In the lead up to the trip, the content on the RBRJ Blog and YT page provided really helpful information and routes including Strava routes I uploaded into my bike computer and subsequently used. RBRJ was also helpful through emails.
At the workshop Gareth and Mayu were super nice and are pretty chatty; the bike was in good condition and I had no problems with it. The tyre was a bit worn but it mostly got me through. I'd 100% use them again, I'm already working on my next trip (even though it's probably going to be in two years' time)."

"Road Bike Rental is the best option we found for renting road bicycles and hybrid bikes while in Japan. They are professional and easy to work with! We had a group of 5 cyclists doing a week-long trip that included the Shimanami Kaido and riding in Kyushu after that. RBR set us up with the gear we needed including renting pannier bags for our bike tour, and also rinko bags which are necessary for bringing bikes onto the train. They were super communicative and helpful the entire way via WhatsApp. They even arranged a bike pick up at the end of our trip even though it meant the RBR owner had to get up super early in the morning to make it work. Thank you, we appreciate you!"

These shops provide not only well-maintained bicycles but also essential accessories like Rinko bags (for train transport) and pannier bags, along with valuable route information and local insights.

Scenic Routes and Cycling Etiquette
When cycling in Osaka, it's important to be aware of local etiquette. While dedicated bike lanes exist, many cyclists prefer quieter streets or shared paths. Always be mindful of pedestrians and other cyclists, and yield when necessary. Parking your bike in designated areas is crucial to avoid fines or obstruction. Rental shops often provide maps or digital routes, which can be invaluable for discovering the best paths and avoiding busy intersections, especially when returning to the city center from longer rides.
For a truly immersive experience, consider following routes recommended by local rental shops. These often lead to hidden gems and beautiful viewpoints that might not be obvious on a standard map. Remember to stay hydrated and enjoy the unique perspective that cycling offers on the city.
