What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hachiman Park is appreciated for its historical significance and mature, natural setting, offering a stable sense of place. Visitors enjoy the historical statues and the remnants of the castle town, as well as the pleasant walking paths along the moat. However, the presence of mosquitoes can be a notable drawback for some.
"The park is quite old, but it must have been Omihachiman's core park in the past. It has a well-designed promenade and other areas. The trees are large, and there's a magnificent bronze statue of Toyotomi Hideyori, giving the park a sense of stability not found in the neater parks built in recent years. There are some playground equipment for children, but they're not in the parking lot on the east side, and are behind the library.
The only downside is that there are a lot of mosquitoes, probably because it's near a bamboo grove. Bring some spray with you."

"☆It was a park rich in nature, spreading behind the Omihachiman Library, at the foot of the southern side of Mt. Hachiman (Tsuruyokuyama)🌳
There were small slides and jungle gyms for children, several gazebos for rest areas, and separate toilets for men and women behind the library. There were also squares in the middle and on the east side, and strangely enough, there were two storehouses in the east square🤔
In the park, there was a small Sugiharu Inari Shrine and a bronze statue of the regent Toyotomi Hidetsugu, who is connected to Hachimanyama Castle, overlooking the Omihachiman city area. On the west side of the park are the remains of Toyotomi Hidetsugu's residence, the remains of his retainers' hall, and a group of stone walls👀
There is free parking at the library and on the east side of the park🚙
If you have children, it is convenient to use the library parking lot, and there is an area with playground equipment right behind it🚶"

I visited Zuiryuji Temple.
The temple gate had a very atmospheric feel."

A Glimpse into Omihachiman's Past
The park's historical significance extends to its role in the prosperity of the Hachimanbori canal. This canal was a major artery that fueled the town's growth and the success of its merchants, making it as bustling as Otsu in Omi Province during the late Edo period. Walking along the moat offers a refreshing and pleasant experience, allowing visitors to imagine the vibrant trade and bustling activity of centuries past.
While the park itself is old, its design includes a well-maintained promenade and various resting areas. The presence of large, mature trees contributes to its serene atmosphere, making it a peaceful spot for reflection on the historical narratives embedded within the landscape. It's a place where nature and history intertwine beautifully.

The park's free parking and accessible facilities like toilets add to its convenience for family outings.
