What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Baishinji Park and Beach offers beautiful seasonal flowers, particularly cherry blossoms, and a serene seaside experience. While some visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the unique Botchan Train, others note that certain areas could benefit from better maintenance and that facilities are limited. The admission and parking fees are also points of consideration for some.
"Admission is 500 yen. Matsuyama City announced that cherry blossoms would bloom on March 27, 2024, but when I visited on April 2, the cherry blossoms in the park were still in bud. I think we'll be able to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom in about a week to 10 days.
I had read other people's comments about Umezudera Park a few days ago, so I imagined it would be "overgrown," but it seemed like some areas of the park were being maintained? Pruned? Cleaned?
I'm thinking about going back to Umezudera Park when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, or maybe I should try again.
Additional note: I tried again on Sunday, April 7, and the cherry blossoms were in perfect bloom. ^_^
Perhaps it's because of the location, or because they're exposed to the sea breeze all year round? The trees seem a bit lifeless. Since they've planted beautiful cherry trees like Somei-Yoshino and plum trees, I wish they'd provide them with nutrients (fertilizer?), even if it's not on a regular basis."

"It's so rundown, it's sad. It's overgrown with weeds. There seems to be an admission fee and a parking fee, but there was no one there to help.
If you have the Mican app, you can enter for free, so I went in, but I wonder if it would be more beautiful when the plum blossoms are in bloom?
There was also a Botchan train on display here."

"It's right outside Baishinji Station on the Iyotetsu line.
The park was originally an amusement park, but my honest impression is that there's "nothing there."
It's fine if the flowers are in bloom, but otherwise there's really nothing to see. And even if it's only 100 yen, there's still an entrance fee...
Another big drawback is that there are no toilets in the park. The only toilets are at the Iyotetsu station, and there aren't many of them. When I went there, there were hardly any customers, so it wasn't a problem."

Seasonal Floral Beauty
Beyond cherry blossoms, the park also features plum blossoms, usually appearing in late February to early March. While perhaps less dramatic than the cherry blossoms, they offer a charming early-season color palette. Some visitors have noted that the trees, possibly due to their seaside location, can appear a bit 'lifeless' and could benefit from more nutrient care. However, when in bloom, they still contribute significantly to the park's aesthetic appeal.
For those planning a visit specifically for the flowers, checking local bloom forecasts is highly recommended. The exact timing can shift year to year based on weather patterns, ensuring you catch the peak of their beauty.
Coastal Charm and Relaxation
Many visitors find the beach to be a peaceful retreat, especially during the late afternoon when the sun begins to set. The coastal scenery provides a beautiful backdrop for relaxation and quiet contemplation. While not typically a swimming beach, its scenic beauty makes it a worthwhile addition to any visit.
The combination of the park's blooming flowers and the serene beach creates a dual attraction, offering both vibrant natural beauty and calming coastal vistas. It’s a place where you can enjoy the best of both worlds, from the delicate petals of flowers to the vast expanse of the sea.
A Glimpse of Local History: The Botchan Train
The Botchan Train is named after the famous novel by Natsume Soseki, which is set in Matsuyama. Its presence in the park serves as a cultural landmark, offering visitors a tangible connection to local literature and history.
While the park's primary draw might be its seasonal flowers and beach, the Botchan Train provides an unexpected and delightful element for those interested in local heritage. It's a simple yet significant exhibit that enhances the overall visitor experience.
