The groves of trees are vast, sometimes a park with thousands of trees in one location. Hanafubuki translates to flower storm. Sakura season may be over, but the gift of experiencing the stages from bud to bloom to blizz...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking, unobstructed panoramic views of Kyoto from Kenkun Shrine, often describing the experience as serene and peaceful due to the lack of crowds. The hike up through the Torii gates is also a highlight, adding to the immersive and rewarding journey. Some appreciate the availability of Goshuin and the friendly service. While the climb requires effort, the overall consensus is that it's a highly worthwhile and tranquil destination.

"The shrine has a stunning view of Kyoto in all directions and a wonderful shop at the top. It is so beautiful and worth the hike up. The woman at the counter was so friendly and helped me with my first stamp book and stamp for this shrine."

Peter Mulard

"All most no tourist are visiting this shrine, while walking up to the top are red Torii gates everywhere and the view are amazing you can see all most whole Kyoto and not many temples, palaces and shrines have view of all most whole Kyoto"

Stefan Odd Gruszczynski

"This is one of the temples I enjoyed visiting the most. It was literally empty but the view up there was amazing! It was also very calming and quiet up there. I really enjoyed it. It is located in a very residential area and you have to walk up to the summit of the hill. The first temple you encounter is dedicated to Inari (Ookami) God. You then continue up and you will reach the summit where the honden (the main Shinto shrine hall) is located. Up there you will have an amazing view over Kyoto. There is a bus stop just next to it so it is not hard to reach and no entrance fee since it is a Shinto shrine."
