There is also a hot spring by the river down the stairs, but it was cold and not really a hot spring.

The outdoor hot spring that you can reach by walking through the bamboo forest by the nearby river was very pleasant."

"Do you know who was the first person to take a honeymoon in Japan?
It was actually Sakamoto Ryoma.
Sakamoto Ryoma and his wife Oryo stayed at Shiohimi Onsen in Kagoshima Prefecture for an extended honeymoon.
Apparently, he came here on the recommendation of Komatsu Tatewaki and Saigo Takamori to treat a hand injury he sustained during the Teradaya Incident.
We went to Shiohimi Onsen to experience its history.

[Impressions]
It's hard to express my impressions of onsen eggs, but they were just the right amount of hot.
Delicious eggs with a strong hot spring aroma.
The foot bath in the park is also famous, but there was no hot water in it on this day.
There is a statue of Ryoma and Oryo in the park, and there is also a museum which adults can enter for 300 yen.
You can see what it was like at the time and valuable letters written by Sakamoto Ryoma.
It is a small museum but I'm glad I went.
It retains the appearance of the time, and although it is by no means the clean and tidy atmosphere of today, it had a nice atmosphere.
Thank you!"

"Stop here on the way to Kirishima Onsenkyo. Once you cross the bridge and enter the park, everything is open to the public for free, except for the museum and hot spring baths.
Standing here, where Ryoma and Oryo spent eight days, creates an indescribable feeling.
I highly recommend Shiozumi Onsen Ryoma Park."
