What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kanno Farm is praised for its beautiful, rolling flower fields and tranquil, less commercialized atmosphere, offering a peaceful escape. Visitors appreciate the stunning hilltop views and ample parking. However, a significant concern is the strict enforcement of rules, with reports of substantial fines for stepping off designated paths, sometimes due to unclear signage.
"Kanno Farm is located on a hill slope besides National Route 237. It has ample car parks. Whereas Farm Tomita and Shikisai-no-Oka are often crowded with tourists arriving in tour coaches, Kanno Farm is less commercialised and therefore, less crowded.
Although Kanno Farm is not big, it has rolling hill slopes of lavender and other flowering plants. Paths lead up to the hill top where visitors can enjoy a downhill view of the flowering garden.
There is a small retail and refreshment area in a building besides the car park.
My wife and I visited Kanno Farm in July as part of other attractions in Biei. We enjoyed the less busy environment and were able to better appreciate the flowers."

"While looking back on my trip around Northeast Asia over the past few weeks, I came across something pretty shocking in the reviews.
Apparently, someone was fined 10,000Yen (about $65) for stepping into a restricted area — and there were quite a few similar stories too.
I actually saw the rude employee(or the owner) at that same place yelling, pointing, and almost charging at my friend. It was honestly way over the line. Part of me wondered if it happened because we were Southeast Asian — maybe it was even a bit of discrimination.
There was also a small fence with a path beyond it, but no warning signs anywhere.
I mean, people make mistakes — and it’s not hard to imagine someone with a disability, a kid, or even a dog accidentally stepping over such a low fence. Is it really fair to fine people like that when there aren’t even any warning signs?
If this has happened multiple times already, there are plenty of simple fixes — raise the fence, put up signs, whatever.
Instead, it feels like they’d rather collect 10,000 yen from unlucky visitors.
I really hope the owner thinks about whether it’s smarter to keep doing that or to make the place more welcoming for tourists.
Either way, we’ll never go there again — and we definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone around us."

"(Plz be aware)It was a beautiful farm, we were on the way towards the top point which we thought that was an observation desk. We took the left side trail trying to make a big round of the farm. Somehow in the middle we got yelled out by a Japanese(later we learned he is the farm owner). He claimed that we stepped into a preserve area and he needed to disinfect the entire area because our shoes had bacteria. He wanted to fine us ¥10000. He said if you didn’t pay, he’d called the police. We paid because we wanted to move on our trip."
