Marina fees have been set for many years at a low level that does not correspond to the costs of maintaining the facility.
Expenses that cannot be covered by fees are funded by our taxpayers' money.
This is because the wealthy elderly class, who make up the majority of users, have been using Ginowan City and Prefectural Assembly members elected from Ginowan to pressure Okinawa Prefecture not to raise fees.
As wealthy people, shouldn't they pay a fee commensurate with the enjoyment they enjoy?
Why lower their own burden by using our taxpayers' money to fund these activities?
Taxpayers' money should be used to address social issues such as supporting young people in poverty, child-rearing support, and elderly care.
Since marinas are largely used for recreation by the wealthy, wouldn't it be more appropriate to maintain them solely through the fees paid by the wealthy users, rather than continuing to fund them with our taxpayers' money?
A commoner like me can't afford to buy and maintain a boat.
We urge Okinawa Prefecture to immediately stop pouring these ordinary people's hard-earned tax money into entertainment facilities for the wealthy and set appropriate prices!"
