What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Gamagori City Takeshima Aquarium charming, particularly for its unique crab exhibits and engaging sea lion shows. While some note the compact size and pricing for non-locals, the interactive elements and the dedication of the staff are frequently praised. It's a delightful, educational stop, especially when combined with the nearby Take Island.
"Local aquarium, not big, can explore everything within an hour. Have lots of crabs and other shellfish exhibitions. The posters are all hand-written, so you can see how devoted the staff is! Some tanks are too small for the fish already, so I felt a bit sad. The baby capybaras were so cute!"

"I recently visited the aquarium after its renewal and would recommend prebooking tickets to avoid longer lines, although we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. The experience lasted around 2 to 3 hours, and while we didn’t catch any of the shows offered, they may extend your visit if you choose to attend them.
The aquarium features a wide variety of marine life, including crabs, fish, sharks, and other aquatic species, which adds to the overall experience.
Overall, it was enjoyable, and the ticket prices are very reasonable considering what you get to see. Both kids and adults can have a great time here.
The facility offers parking and is wheelchair accessible, with a relatively short walking area that is suitable for seniors and families with toddlers. The staff was exceptionally friendly and polite, enhancing our visit.
This new experience is certainly an improvement compared to the previous setup before the renewal, and I highly recommend it.
As a tip, I suggest arriving early and bringing your own food. You can enjoy a lovely picnic after exploring the aquarium.
Additionally, there's a park behind it where you can relax, take a stroll across the bridge, and visit Take Island. This could make for a delightful day out!"

"I get to touch sharks and isopods which was cool. Unfortuanely it is a very small aquarium that doesn't justify the 1200 yen admission for out of town visitors. Locals pay 500 yen which is a price that makes a lot more sense. I really don't like this practice of counter-tourism and it feels terrible to see the solo depressed sea lion trapped inside a tiny enclosure"
