Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Shirahige Falls for its breathtaking natural beauty, particularly the stunning cobalt blue of the Biei River and the unique 'white beard' cascade. Many highlight the ease of access and the picturesque views from the nearby bridge. While some mention crowds, visiting early morning is often recommended to fully appreciate the serene atmosphere.
"My second time in winter pilgrimage to Shirahige Waterfall in Hokkaido felt even more magical than the first in September.
There’s something deeply serene yet awe-inspiring about this place in winter. The snow-covered peaks of the Tokachi Mountains rise silently in the background, like gentle giants watching over the valley. And then, there’s the waterfall—not frozen, but flowing in the most striking shade of blue. It’s a crystalline, almost surreal turquoise, born from mineral-rich volcanic waters filtering through snowmelt.
When sunlight spills over the scene, the snow glitters like diamond dust, and that blue stream stands out vividly—a ribbon of liquid sapphire weaving through a world of white. Every time I visit, it feels like nature is showing off its purest artistry.
If you ever find yourself in Hokkaido in winter, don’t just pass by. Stay. Breathe it in. Let the cold air and the sight of that timeless flow remind you how beautiful stillness and movement can coexist.

"Visited on a weekday in August with perfect sunny weather and no rain. It wasn’t crowded, although the Blue Pond area had several tour buses. Parking was easy and close by. The bridge offers a lovely spot to take in the views, and the waterfall nearby is beautiful with a stunning mountain backdrop. A charming house overlooks the whole scene, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. The clear blue water reflects the sky perfectly, making it a great place for photos. It’s a quiet, scenic spot that’s worth visiting for nature lovers and photographers. There’s also a small shop selling potatoes, ice cream and melons too. Great for some refreshments."

"Went there during summer. The weather was moderate and it was sunny. There is a car park nearby so no problem if U drive here. The Blue Pond nearby has a blue colour, which makes the water from the waterfall cyan too. There is a bridge, great place for pictures with the waterfall. Hope ya have a g'day."
