What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sannosawa-dake is praised for its stunning 360-degree summit views and the peaceful, uncrowded hiking experience it offers. While the trails are challenging with roots and rocks, and weather can change rapidly, the solitude and natural beauty make it a highly recommended destination for those seeking a quieter mountain adventure.
"We descended Senjojiki Cirque, climbed back up to Gokurakudaira, and then did a round trip to Mt. Minosawa.
In stark contrast to Senjojiki Cirque and Mt. Kisokoma, we enjoyed a very quiet hike. Even in late September, we only passed about four or five people.
The path was very narrow and the dwarf pine was hell. If you're not careful, you'll hit your knees and shins hard on tree roots and rocks. There are many ups and downs, so it's quite a strenuous hike, but the summit offers a 360-degree view with amazing views.
I recommend it."

"September 2025, Day 1 of the Central Alps traverse. We took the Komagane Ropeway, passed the bustling Senjojiki, and made our way through the crowds of climbers up to Norikoshi Jodo. We then made our way to the summit of Mt. Hoken and Troll's Tongue, where there were plenty of other climbers. From the Sannosawa-dake junction, we returned to the quiet mountains. From the Southern Alps, we could see Mt. Utsugi and Mt. Minami-Komagatake, which really got us in the mood for a traverse. It's one of the 100 highest mountains, with great views and a lovely quiet mountain."

"In the morning, I headed to Misawadake in search of a mountain that would lead back to the Senjojiki Ropeway.
I started by descending the mountain trail covered in Japanese stone pine, getting pricked by protruding twigs and hitting my shins on invisible stones. Then I turned around and had to rely on sheer willpower to climb the steep climb! I wondered if this would be the same on the way back...
It's a surprisingly tough mountain."
