What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Matsushima Rikyu for its beautiful bay views, engaging cultural activities like kimono rental and crafts, and delicious local food, especially oysters. Some note that event queues can be long, but the overall experience is highly enjoyable and scenic.
"This is a fun place to experience some local culture. You can play dress up, learn to make things such as chopstick and origami, and more. Or you can just eat and drink and enjoy the view from the rooftop, which is freely accessible. The central pond was clearly artificial as it's very shallow with scattered islands like Matsushima. And it's a very romantic place for couples to visit, ring the love bells, make a wish at the shrine, do a variety of hands on crafts together, or just eat and drink and make memories."

"I came for oyster festival that runs from February 2nd-24th. It was a obviously great place to visit Matsushima.
Raw oysters were 600 yen each. They were fresh and delicious. I bought a pre-sale ticket for sake that can be get 5 glasses of sake in for 1300 yen. I recommend buy it.
One disappoined is the queue for sake was too long, I can only get one at one time. even if you had a ticket for 5 glasses, no choices.
They should either spread out the distribution places.
The hot sake was the perfect temperature and the any service was excellent.
I would like to come back to eat oysters."

"We went to first Matsuahima oyster festival in Saturday, February 22nd. We tried oyster chowder, grilled oyster with cheese, fried oysters, oyster ajillo, oyster with sea urchin, salmon roe and sliced scallops on top which was my favorite. They offered 10 different sakes from all over miyagi prefecture. We tried almost every sake they had. Cold and hot sake options were nice."
