What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Naval History Museum Venice for its extensive collection of model ships and historical armaments, offering a deep dive into Italy's maritime past. While some find it less crowded than other major attractions, a few suggest more interactive displays could enhance the experience.
"The audio guide was very well done due to voice actors telling the stories from the experiences of people; some of the war stories involving sacarfice were emotional. Paid 16 Eur for the museum and ships pavilion. For 10 Eur more, you can visit the submarine, which is on a scheduled time. The audio guide was included with the entrance fee. The museum has 5 floors and took 3 hours. The ship pavilion took one hour and can be done separately on the next day."

"It's a really interesting museum to learn about Venice and its sailing traditions [but very little information in the tags] [you must get the audioguide and pay extra if you wanna learn more about yhe ships]
There are many models of ships, boats and gondolas to see. And they have a separate exhibit inside the Arsenale for bigger boats and even a submarine.
My concern is that even though bathrooms are at each floor, 1-2 person capacity is not enough for the visitors. The lift was under maintenance, but I'm not sure it is a super accessible building for people with some kind of issue to go up the stairs for 4 floors.
So be prepared for that!
[I went in with a free ticket due to a special event, not sure I would have paid the 16€ for what I saw otherwise]"

"If you’re a fan of military history—especially naval history—the Museo Storico Navale di Venezia is a must-visit while in Venice. Tucked away from the bustling tourist hotspots, this well-curated museum showcases the rich history of the Italian naval service, from its earliest days to the modern era. You’ll gain insight into how the Italians became master seafarers and played a pivotal role in maritime history.
If you’re visiting during peak season, it’s a good idea to book tickets in advance. However, if you’re there in the off-season—we visited in January—you may be able to walk in without any issues."
