🇬🇷 the Roman Odeon, Kos 🏛 The island of Kos has a rich history that dates back well into the Bronze Age; however Kos also held a significant place as a centre for commerce and culture during Roman times as well. The Roman times left Kos with numerous remnants of immense archaeological significance; the Roman Odeon, Casa Romana and a number of villas owned by Roman nobility have been preserved in...

The Roman Odeon of Kos is one of the island’s most awesome historical spots, built on the remains of an even older hangout. This place, which can fit 750 people, was rocking back in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD with music competitions and Senate meetings for all kinds of ceremonies and events. Think of it as the ancient version of today’s Odeons, but instead of movies, they had live shows—and ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the Roman Odeon for its free admission and historical significance, offering a glimpse into ancient entertainment. While some find the site small and lacking detailed information, its accessibility and charm make it a worthwhile quick stop for those exploring the city.

"The Odeon is a nice little archeological site near downtown Taormina. There are remnants of both a temple from 250 BC and an Odeon from 100 BC. The site was very accessible to the public and I was able to freely walk through the ruins. It doesn’t take too much time to explore. There’s a sign giving some information about the ruins. If you’re walking around Taormina, this is a great site to quickly check out."

"A close-up view of the Roman Odeon in Taormina, Italy — ancient brickwork and stone seating reveal the intimate scale of this Roman-era theatre, tucked quietly behind the bustling streets, echoing with the cultural legacy of Sicily’s layered history."

Onbarefeet

"Wonderful to see that places like this are free for people to experience. However, there HAS to be a person there to keep tourists from littering and using the corners as toalets. The site of this importance needs to be maintained better.

Also, please let street musicians use the area for live music, that would be a perfect combo..."
