Reviews Summary

Its historical significance and relatively uncrowded atmosphere are also frequently highlighted. Some visitors note that information about the crypt can be unclear, and the basilica's quiet nature might not appeal to everyone seeking a bustling tourist experience.

"Beautiful Roman Church. Truly a gem to visit if you're into early church history. The site this church is built on was home to the first Christian Church in Rome and was the former "Vatican" before Constantine legalized Christianity and transferred the Pope to San Giovanni laterano. Parts of the building were converted from ancient Roman bathhouses to the church. It was truly stunning to see and witness such history."

"I truly love this hidden gem of a Basilica in Roma. The Basilica is often missed because of its sister Basilica of Maria Maggiore but should not be. I recommend that visiting Maria Maggiore you make this a must stop as well. The Basilica could be the oldest church in Rome. Take a look at the mosaic artwork above the alter it contains clues of the early church"

Michael Boroczk

So much Catholic history is in this place.
It’s good to trace the early footprints of our Faith."
