What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Patresi Beach is celebrated for its absolutely stunning sunsets and the convenience of free showers and bathrooms. While the rocky, slippery terrain and the expensive cafe are noted drawbacks, the accessible pier platform and the overall natural beauty make it a worthwhile visit, especially for sunset enthusiasts.
"Very rocky beach area. One cafe which is expensive, a toasted bread with tomato was 9 euro. Very steep road in but there is a local bus for 50 cent"
Paul Corcoran
"Beautiful beach, slightly difficult to swim in due to the large, round, slippery rocks that extend at least 10 meters from the shore. The much-criticized concrete platform at the beginning of the beach is actually crowded with loungers and an excellent diving platform, so all this means that people actually like the beach.
A very positive note: bathrooms and showers are completely FREE, something unheard of on Elba, which makes the return trip from the beach less tiring given the high salinity of the water.
A stunning sunset, the sun disappearing into the horizon, creating a stunning atmosphere."
Alessio Gobbo
"The pier is currently being renovated after a strong storm damaged it, so it's only partially accessible: the section where you can dive in and climb back up using the ladder remains usable. It's equipped with umbrellas and loungers upon request. There's also a free shower, a rarity on the island's beaches! The easily accessible rocky and pebble beach begins at the pier. There's a beach bar with a small kitchen. I'll add the missing star once the concrete pier is completed and you can fully enjoy the splendid sunset this spot offers. A star added, the pier completed with the addition of a section where you can sit with your feet in the sea!"

The concrete platform offers a more controlled environment for older children to jump into the water, provided they are confident swimmers. The beach bar offers some refreshments, but packing snacks and drinks is a good idea, especially if you plan to stay for the sunset. The steep road access might be a concern for strollers, but the local bus is a viable alternative.
💰 Budget Travelers
While the beach itself is free, be mindful of the expensive cafe on-site if you plan to purchase food or drinks. Bringing your own picnic and water is a smart way to keep costs down. Visiting in the late afternoon and staying until dusk is essential to capture the full magic of the sunset. The golden hour light will enhance the colors and textures of the scene. While the beach can get moderately crowded during sunset, arriving a bit earlier can help you secure a good spot for your tripod and equipment.

The Unique Patresi Beach Experience
Despite the challenging terrain for swimming, the beach boasts a concrete platform that has become a popular spot for diving and sunbathing. This platform, initially criticized, has proven to be a well-loved feature, offering easier access to the sea and a place to relax. The free showers and bathrooms are a significant amenity, providing convenience for beachgoers after a day in the salty water.
One of the most compelling reasons to visit Patresi Beach is its spectacular sunset views. The sun's descent over the horizon creates a breathtaking panorama, making it a prime location for photographers and those seeking a serene evening experience. The pier, though partially renovated, still offers a vantage point to soak in these stunning natural displays.
Navigating to and Around Patresi Beach
Once at the beach, the primary consideration is the terrain. The rocky and pebble nature of the shore means that walking barefoot can be uncomfortable for some. Investing in a pair of water shoes is highly recommended, not only for comfort but also for safety, as the rocks can be slippery. The free showers are a welcome amenity, allowing visitors to rinse off the salt and sand before heading back, making the journey more pleasant.
The beach is equipped with a beach bar that also has a small kitchen, offering refreshments and light meals. However, be aware that prices can be on the higher side, as noted by some visitors. The pier, while undergoing repairs, still provides access for swimming and diving, and its partially completed state does not detract significantly from the overall experience, especially considering the stunning sunset views it offers.
