What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Teatro Umberto Giordano is celebrated as a beautifully restored historic gem in Foggia, offering magical evenings with excellent acoustics and a captivating atmosphere. Visitors are impressed by its elegant interiors and the 'Fedora' room's unique historical artifacts. While most experiences are highly positive, some mention occasional issues with sound balance or heat during performances.
"This evening, guests were invited by one of the organizers, Mr. Mimmo Azzarone, to attend the Rimbaband's highly appreciated performance in honor of the journalist Geppo Piantanida.
The theater was clean and tidy, worthy of such an event!"

"The Umberto Giordano Municipal Theatre, inaugurated in 1828 and built by engineer Luigi Oberty, is the main theatre in the city of Foggia and is named after the Foggian composer Umberto Giordano, who learned the basics of classical music here as a teenager. From the 1940s until 1950, the theatre suffered severe damage from the 1943 bombings, which devastated not only the theatre but the entire city. From 1960, with the great post-war economic recovery, the Giordano Theatre returned to operation and hosted major artists such as Anna Magnani, Nino Taranto, Salvo Randone, Walter Chiari, Paolo Panelli, Gino Bramieri, and others. Restoration work was carried out in 1982. The theatre again closed in 2006, due to structural reasons. After eight long years, it reopened on December 10, 2014, with a concert by the Cherubini Youth Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti. Today, the theater is in full swing, and at its peak. I was truly captivated, and this evening I was fortunate enough to attend a beautiful performance of "I ragazzi irresistibili" with Umberto Orsini and Franco Branciaroli. I highly recommend seeing a show. The acoustics are excellent and the atmosphere magical."

"The Umberto Giordano Theater has been reopened after a long renovation. Today you can admire its splendor.
It was born in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Foggia near the Dante bookshop.
Its name is dedicated to the composer Umberto Giordano from Foggia. In 1828 with the inauguration of the theater, the vision of operas was dedicated only to the noble and illustrious, at the time it was called the "Real Ferdinando" theater, dedicated in honor of Ferdinand I of Bourbon.
Its elegance among the bright and shiny colors reflects its details.
Few people know that upstairs in the "Fedora" room, the name of Umberto Giordano's work, used for Conferences and Symposiums, you can appreciate the composer's original shiny grand piano 🎹 and inside his signature is placed at the bottom, seen as authentic.
The turning point was when with popular participation carnival celebrations and events were dedicated, a symbol that the theater was regaining its civic status.
Many companies and numerous artists in the most varied and important operas and melodramas represented over time.
In 1928 its name was "Teatro Dauno". It was affected by the bombings of the world war, many wanted to erect other monuments and buildings with the demolition, but the strong sense of artistic rebirth raised it from the rubble.
Still immobile and far-sighted it stands bristling to dominate the large square."
