What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Port of Claudius Archaeological Site to be an impressive and historically significant location, offering a peaceful alternative to Rome's busier attractions. While some areas are still under development and facilities can be limited, the scale of the ancient harbor and the quiet atmosphere are highly praised. It's recommended for those interested in Roman engineering and history.
"Interesting archaeological area. Sadly, it is still unfinished. We had a walk around the nice quiet gardens and read the information on the signs, sadly, a chunk of the park (The view of the Trajan port and the most recent warehouses) were closed for works, eventhough no works were visible. The toilets aren’t open either, but there are some portable ones. The staff was very friendly, but there is no parking available and it is hard to reach without a car, so I would recommend to visit once it is ready to open to the public."

"Amazing place! Plan to have half a day or longer to see everything. We only had two and a half and missed so much."

"Impressive. You walk in a park with remains of what actually was THE largest harbor of the Roman Empire. While you walk around you get the impressive scale of this harbor. Spend about 1.5hr. has nice info panels all around, good route info, and audio tour optional (5€, return before 4pm). Entrance fee 6€. On a hot day, you walk significant parts in (partial) shade, we saw far less people compared to the more famous places in downtown Rome. Also nice to visit the closeby Ostia Antica (the ancient Rome city) if you have more time, combine fee 18€.
And when you watch Gladiator movie, you can say "hey, i walked there!!""
