What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Aveto Regional Natural Park is praised for its vast, untouched natural beauty and extensive trail network, offering an authentic mountain experience close to the coast. Visitors appreciate the welcoming refuges, good and affordable local food, and the year-round appeal for activities like hiking and skiing. Some find the public transport limited, making a car highly recommended for full exploration.
"Review of Rifugio Ventarola
On 05/30/2025 we stayed overnight at Rifugio Ventarola. We were hiking on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (from Garessio to Varese Ligure) and were arriving from Colle di Creto (24 km). Since my partner had had tendinitis in her right foot a few weeks earlier, it was no longer possible to hike 24 km a day. So we asked Daniela, the manager of Rifugio Ventarola, by phone to take us from Barbagelata to Ventarola with her car. No sooner said than done. The next morning, Daniela also took us to Passo della Forcella and so we were able to walk to Rifugio Monte Aiona Pratomollo, the next stop. The stay at Rifugio Ventarola was very nice: Daniela had done the shopping for us and so we cooked pasta and salad with two other hikers. We ate in front of the fire in the fireplace, it was a beautiful experience. Thank you Daniela!"

"With over 10,000 hectares and 98 trails, the Aveto Regional Natural Park is one of the largest in Liguria. It is rich in animal and plant species, but is also famous for its lakes, some of which are of glacial origin. In summer, the climate is "alpine" just a few kilometers from the beaches. In winter, it's truly mountainous, with ski slopes and cross-country ski trails, as well as snowshoe trails. Worth seeing is the village of Santo Stefano d'Aveto, located at the foot of the highest mountains in the Ligurian Apennines: Maggiorasca, Groppo Rosso, and Penna. In Borzonasca, you can visit the Gambatesa Mines in Valgraveglia."
