Reviews Summary

Visitors find Rione Triggio to be a historically rich and charming neighborhood with a medieval atmosphere. Its narrow alleys and ancient monuments are highly praised, offering a unique 'treasure hunt' experience. However, some reviewers note that certain areas could benefit from revitalization and better maintenance to fully unlock their potential.

"A classic place steeped in history, with several reasonably well-preserved monuments. The narrow streets and alleys are charming, though not very well maintained! The entire area deserves a structural revitalization to fully exploit the many monuments that, after two thousand years, still dominate the entire neighborhood."

Raffaele Lamparelli

"Triggio (from the Latin trivium) is the neighborhood between the Lombard walls of via Torre della Catena (which open into Port'Arsa), Piazza Cardinale Pacca (or Piazza Santa Maria) and the Duomo. It was the heart of the so-called new Lombard city. Triggio retains much of its medieval topography, made up of narrow, intricate alleys overlooked by old buildings. From the cathedral, the neighborhood is accessed via the Sacramento arch, a massive brick door from the post-Trajan era, flanked by an archaeological area currently being renovated. From here, on the right, Via San Filippo starts, which leads behind Piazza Santa Maria; among the alleys is the house of San Gennaro, while at the end of the street is the baroque church of San Filippo with its convent.

Via Carlo Torre, however, descends to the wide street of the same name, located on the main road of the district. This, continuing to the left, leads to the most evocative alleys of the district: via Angelo Catone and Calata Olivella, which leads back to the archbishop's palace. Both are very narrow alleys, bordered by ancient walls and houses. To the east there are very few remains of the Lombard church of San Modesto, destroyed by the world conflict.

To the right, however, beyond the university's Faculty of Science, is Piazza Caio Ponzio Telesino, overlooked by the Roman Theatre, with the church of Santa Maria della Verità built on its ruins. The square, recently repaved, communicates with via Torre della Catena via a large gap in the walls.

To the north of the Roman Theater, precisely between Piazza Manfredi Di Svevia and Via Degli Orti, there is a small square, built by the municipal administration and completed on 11 June 2010, called "Largo Manfredi di Svevia". The construction of the small square redevelops an area of notable historical interest, which had been abandoned for many years.

Beyond, the road leads towards Port'Arsa: this area has recent constructions and large unbuilt areas."

Eddy Pacillo

"It's located within the Lombard walls and is very characteristic. In every alleyway, on the walls of the buildings, you can find historical evidence of different periods. A truly enjoyable treasure hunt."
