Reviews Summary
Barryscourt Castle is widely praised for its stunning, historically accurate restoration and its free, engaging guided tours led by passionate guides. Visitors appreciate the free entry and the charming orchard garden, making it a hidden gem in East Cork. However, some note that the grounds' loose stones and the castle's steep stairs present accessibility challenges.
"I’ve always loved castles, and I have to say this was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever visited. It has been wonderfully restored while preserving its original style. The interiors were faithfully recreated based on historical records and information from books. The guided tour was fantastic – we were lucky to have Jamie, a very talented and passionate guide who truly conveyed the richness and history of this extraordinary place. It’s definitely worth a visit – I highly recommend coming!
During the visit, we also came across a ceramic artifact inside the castle, which, apparently, no one knew the purpose of. After doing some research, I was able to find out what it was! I’m very happy to be able to share this small discovery.
Its the top / head of a medieval ceramic alembic :)"

"Lovingly restored with beautiful grounds and a fledgling orchard garden. A true hidden gem in east Cork. Entry is free and it was 100% worth it to do the free guided tour. Pauline was our guide and was extremely charming and knowledgeable about the history of the castle and its medieval history. A great way to spend a few hours."

"A lovely new amenity to East Cork. You will need to be fit and able to attempt the stairs in the Castle and only 15 are allowed each time. Paths are not wheelchair friendly (loose stones), even down to the Orchard. Would recommend either compacted stones or bark. Would have given 5 stars only for the grounds. Will return. Carpark is very small."
