Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find the Wawo Muda Crater Lakes hike to be a pleasant and refreshing experience, offering beautiful mountain views and a peaceful woodland trek. While the trail can be challenging to navigate at times due to unmarked splits, many feel it's manageable without a guide with proper preparation. The scenery is consistently praised, making it a worthwhile activity for those seeking a dose of nature and light exercise.
"I went here alone, with no guide. It’s difficult to find the starting point and I ended up parking at the bottom of a hill and walked up a dirt road, located near Naru village.
The track for the first half is in good condition - but when it splits there are no sign posts, and I went the wrong way. Not too many people around to ask, and one person also sent me the wrong way. With the help of Google maps, I managed to find the track again after walking through the bush, and from Ceria coffee it was easy to find the rest of the way.
So, it’s possible to do this hike without a guide - but be prepared that it’s easy to go the wrong way, and it can be a hassle to get back on the right track. Some parts of the track are overgrown, so wear long trousers. It rained while I was walking but it was not too slippery.
I really enjoyed walking through the last quarter of the track, through the woods. The views from the top are wonderful - to be honest the lake did not seem that spectacular. Overall I’m very happy I hiked this track even though I got lost - the scenery is nice, you will meet some nice local people, get fresh air and some good exercise."
