What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Sunan Gunung Jati Tomb Complex is a historically significant and sacred site for understanding Islam's spread in Indonesia, featuring unique Javanese-Islamic architecture. However, many visitors report an uncomfortable experience due to aggressive and frequent donation requests from locals, which detracts from the spiritual atmosphere.
"Historic place for Islam in Indonesia and Cirebon, still have authentic feel since its maintain by local thats why the lack of management is apparent, there is donation box literally every step inside the cemetery and the people asked rather forcefully better to have fixed admission ticket for maintenance and donation box for people that want to give sadaqah, truly forced donation does not bring any goodness to the giver and the one who accepted it. This is serene and sacred place, good place to learn spreading of Islam in Indonesia and other history but uncomfortable in the current state."

"The tomb is located inside a building. It has beautiful marmer wall around the tomb.
The area has a wide parking lot with wide range of stalls selling merchandise. The only disturbing thing about visiting this place is the kids who stalk on us begging for money."

"this shrine is actually really nice with a lot of artefact ornament, but the really problem is too many beggars that make us uncomfortable and its just too much. So you have to prepared a lot of penny for the beggars"
