What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Great Mosque of Cirebon for its significant historical value and unique traditional architecture, particularly its wooden dome. While generally well-maintained, some note that the ablution facilities for women could be improved for privacy. The mosque's ancient charm and peaceful atmosphere are highlights for many.
"Very old mosque, clean and well taken care of. But ablution for women is a bit inappropriate as the men can see women opening their scarf just a few feet away."

"At the centre of the precinct is a historical mosque with traditional architecture and made entirely of dark coloured timber. Visitors are allowed to enter the historical mosque through the small door. Daily prayers are performed on undercover area around it.
Very beautiful although a bit dusty at some spots. It is understandable as maintaining a structure like this would not be easy. So please donate generously to the mosque while visiting it."

"This red-brick masjid doesn't look like others in common. It looks old, and yes, historical. I came here just few days ago (Dec 2019) at 9.30 AM and the main gate wasn't opened yet, so we had to walk around to find the entrance door at the back side. The parking officer said it usually opens for public at 10AM. The relaxed ambience and the quietness create an image of sacred place. There are toilets and ablution place. Mukena (prayer gown) for women is available. People can do the prayer on the outer part or inner part. To get into the inner part (where you can see the unusual-wooden-dome's structure, special place for king's family to pray), you will have to bend your body because the entrance is smaller than the normal size. If you drive here, you can park near Kasepuhan square by paying 10.000 rupiahs."
