Day 52: Today we visted the monkey forest and fed a few cheeky monkeys. After we visited another Temple where we saw some old monk scriptures. When we arrived at out hostel we had a look around the local market and bought a huge Oreo milkshake which I was unable to finish.

🦟 Bring Insect Repellent

The lush environment means mosquitoes are present, especially in the afternoon. Reddit

📸 Best Photo Light

Visit early morning for softer light and fewer people. Reddit

I get a few people asking how could I bathe in the onsen with the monkeys??? The answer is, I bathed in a ryokan next to the park not inside the Snow Monkey Park 😅 There’s a ryokan inn next to the park called Jigokudani Hot Spring Korakukan where you can pay ¥1200 to bathe in their onsens or even stay in their inn. They have outdoor onsen where you can see the monkeys usually hanging around there...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary's magical blend of lush jungle, ancient temples, and playful wildlife. The spiritual atmosphere and well-maintained grounds are frequently praised, though some caution is advised regarding the monkeys' mischievous nature and the presence of insects. Overall, it's considered a must-visit for its unique combination of nature, culture, and animal encounters.

"The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud was one of the highlights of my trip to Bali. The moment you step inside, you feel like you’ve entered a magical jungle—huge banyan trees, moss-covered statues, and peaceful temple ruins all hidden within the forest. It’s not just a tourist attraction, it really feels like a sacred place.

Of course, the monkeys are the stars here. They’re playful, cheeky, and endlessly entertaining to watch. I loved seeing them jump from tree to tree, care for their babies, and interact naturally with each other. It felt like being a guest in their world rather than just looking at animals behind cages.

What impressed me most is how well the sanctuary is maintained. The paths are clean and easy to walk, the temples are stunning, and there are staff around to make sure both visitors and monkeys stay safe. I also appreciated the clear rules—they remind you to respect the animals and enjoy observing them without disturbing their natural behavior or even to feed them.

I’d recommend going in the morning when it’s cooler and less crowded. Bring your camera (you’ll want a hundred photos!), but keep your belongings secure because the monkeys are curious and love to “borrow” things."

"The Monkey Forest in Ubud is exactly what the name promises, lots of monkeys in a temple and forest setting. It is basically a big park where you wander among old stone carvings, tall trees, and troops of macaques that clearly think they own the place.

It is a nice spot for a walk, with shady paths and a bit of atmosphere from the temples scattered around. The monkeys themselves are the main attraction, playful, curious, sometimes cheeky enough to test your patience if you are carrying food or shiny things.

Overall it is a pleasant experience, part nature, part cultural site, part wildlife encounter. If you do not mind a few monkeys getting a little too close for comfort, it is worth a visit."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Monkey Forest Ubud is a must-visit attraction in Bali! Entry ticket is only 16k, and the whole place is full of beautiful pathways, nature, and hundreds of monkeys 🐒. They are fun to watch but also very naughty – they can steal your glasses, cap, or snacks if you’re not careful.
The highlight for me was the traditional Balinese dance performance, which happens every Saturday from 11 AM – 4 PM at the open stage. The dancers and musicians were outstanding, and it really showed the rich culture of Indonesia. Right behind the stage is a temple (closed for visitors), but it makes the area very photogenic 📸.
If you come on Saturday, you get both the monkey experience and cultural entertainment in one visit. A perfect mix of nature, culture, and fun. Definitely a must-see in Ubud! 🌿"
