What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jaisamand Lake Bara Talab offers a mixed experience, with its beauty peaking during the monsoon season. While it serves as a popular local picnic spot, visitors should be aware of the significant lack of maintenance and the seasonal drying of the lake, which can lead to agricultural use of the lakebed.
"I visited at the fag end of summer, so there weren't many visitors. Also not much water in the lake, nor greenery in the surroundings, so it was not the experience that I was expecting. In fact the lake bed was being used for agriculture.
There are a couple of very badly maintained buildings, which the locals were using to dry their onion harvest. There were also some teens who were idling about."

Understanding the Seasonal Changes
However, during the summer months, particularly May and June, the lake often dries up significantly due to the intense heat and scanty rainfall. In these dry periods, the lake bed is frequently utilized by local residents for agricultural purposes, such as drying crops like onions. This can alter the visitor experience, as the focus shifts from a serene lake to observing local life and farming practices.
It's crucial for visitors to be aware of these seasonal shifts to manage expectations. A summer visit might offer a different, more grounded perspective on local livelihoods, while a monsoon visit promises classic scenic beauty.
Maintenance and Local Impact
This under-maintenance means that while the natural setting can be beautiful, the man-made elements often fall short. Visitors might encounter areas used for practical, non-touristic purposes, such as locals using buildings to dry harvests.
Despite these challenges, the lake remains a valued recreational spot for locals, particularly for evening gatherings and picnics. The community's use of the space highlights its importance, even if formal upkeep is lacking.
