Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple for its divine atmosphere, ancient architecture, and intricate carvings, offering a peaceful spiritual experience. The hilltop Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple provides breathtaking views, and the local Puliyogare is a culinary highlight. Some note that certain outer idols are damaged and wish for better preservation of historical elements.

"I recently visited the Melkote Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, and it was a truly divine experience! The temple is perched on a hill surrounded by rocky landscapes and serene views — perfect for those who love a mix of spirituality and scenic beauty.

The ancient architecture, stone carvings, and calm atmosphere make it one of the most peaceful temples in Karnataka. The climb up to the Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple on the hilltop is worth it — you get a breathtaking panoramic view of the town and the surrounding valleys.

The temple town itself is clean and well-maintained, with a rich heritage feel. Don’t miss trying the Puliyogare (Tamarind Rice) — it’s famous here and offered as prasadam.

Overall, Melkote is not just a temple visit — it’s a journey through history, devotion, and nature. Perfect for a one-day trip from Mysore or Bangalore!"

"This ancient temple, also called as Thirunarayana Perumal Temple and is considered one of the holy places for Vaishnavites and which finds a place in the list of their 'Abhimana Desam' is located in Melukote, Karnataka. The temple town is around 130 Kms from Bengaluru and 110+ Kms from Tumkur.
The temple is reported to have been reuilt by Shri Ramanujacharya in its present form.
The main deity is Cheluvanarayana or Thirunarayananan.
As per the legendary beliefs the Urchavamoorthy idol here was recovered from the hold of Delhi Sultan by Ramanjua and brought back and installed here. The story also goes to state that the Sultan's daughter, who was very much attached to the idol, could not bear the separation and followed Ramanuja's parivar from Delhi to this place and turned a vaishnavite. She is worshipped as Biwi Nachiar and a small idol of hers can be seen at the foot of the Moolavar and Urchavara.
The temple is medium sized and is full of very beautiful architecture. The temple is quite clean and peaceful and is maintained well. On normal days there is not much crowd and you can have a heartful darshan of the Lord and spend as much time as you would like to in your prayers or meditations.
The whole town is full of historical structures like Raya Gopura, Akka Tangi Kola, Bhuvaneswari Mandap etc.

"Melukote Shri Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple is a peaceful and heritage-rich place. The temple feels calm and full of positive vibes. The main idol of Cheluvanarayana is so beautiful 😍 — you’ll feel like just standing there and looking at it for a while. But since it’s managed by the government and there’s usually a crowd, they don’t allow you to stay for long near the idol 😞.

The outer walls have many damaged idols, possibly due to attacks in the past. But inside, the carvings on the pillars are still clear and stunning.

I visited on a Sunday, and yes, it was crowded. However, there’s enough space to park your car behind the temple. It would be great if the temple trust or government could take steps to preserve and protect these ancient carvings.

If you love peace, history, or culture — this temple is a perfect place to visit."
