After exploring Daria Daulat Bagh, we headed to the Gumbaz in Srirangapatna. Before entering, we enjoyed some snacks from the stalls outside — there are plenty of small eateries and refreshment points nearby. Entry to the Gumbaz is free, but there’s a small charge for the shoe stand (we paid ₹20 for four pairs of shoes and chappals).
The moment you step inside the complex, you feel a deep sense of calm and reverence. The Gumbaz houses the tombs of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali, and his mother Fakhr-un-Nisa Begum, all placed in the center of a beautifully maintained garden. The structure is truly grand — built in Indo-Islamic style with a large dome, elegant black granite pillars, and intricately carved ivory doors. The marble interiors are simple yet royal, reflecting the dignity of the Sultan’s legacy.
The surrounding garden adds to the serenity of the place, and the atmosphere is peaceful despite being a popular tourist stop.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience — calm, historic, and beautifully preserved. A must-visit spot in Srirangapatna to complete the Tipu Sultan heritage circuit.

"Gumbaz e Shahi is truly a serene and spiritual place, perfect for finding peace of mind. I loved visiting the mausoleum of Tipu Sultan, Hyder Ali, and Hyderabad Ali's wife (Tipu's mother). The black marble architecture is absolutely stunning and so soothing to behold. It’s wonderful to stroll through the gardens and offer blessings at the graves. The small Masjid also adds to the tranquil atmosphere, where the Namaz happens by Jamaat. A very peaceful and spiritual place. It's open until sunset. Highly recommend!"
