What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sirok Castle offers a unique historical experience with its dramatic clifftop location and intriguing dungeon network. While the ruins themselves might be underwhelming for some, the stunning panoramic views and the Ottoman exhibition provide significant appeal. The hike up is a notable feature, adding to the adventure for many visitors.
"I was greeted by the view of the castle when approaching from the small town of Sirok. There is a parking lot which costs 1000 Ft at the foot of the hill. After parking there, I hiked up a well paved footpath to the castle. The hike up is quite steep and arduous, some travelers who hiked alongside me were left panting.
My eagerness turned into disappointment after entering the castle. The castle is quite underwhelming, its ruins hardly worth the 2500 Ft to enter. Other than a central building that was reconstructed, the large part of the castle was left in its ruinous state.
I distracted myself by trying to marvel at the view at the top of the castle hill and killed some time exploring Ottoman life in the small exhibition there.
I would not recommend traveler to go out of their way to visit this castle. However the area is famous for hiking, and if you visited the area for hiking, then it does no harm to also visit this castle. And if you are already here, spend some time in Sirok and walk the idyllic town to make your time worthwhile."

"This is a stunning place to visit and a must stop if you are in this direction.
The carpark is at the bottom with a 15 minute walk to the top, the walk is strenuous but is on a well maintained road, with no cars other than staff and the one or two houses.
The castle has a number of ruined parts, however the caves/tunnels are very unique and you can walk under a lot of it. The darkness makes it more interesting and you can walk a few metres into each one.
Parking is available and tickets are purchased at the castle entrance."
