What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Pyrgos for its authentic charm, stunning caldera views, and the exceptional hospitality of its residents, particularly staff like Eleni. The village offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, with many appreciating the genuine Santorinian experience and the convenience of local amenities and transport links. Some minor drawbacks include potentially small dining areas during peak times and the need for comfortable walking shoes.
"The key to any hotel of any grade, location or size is the person who greets you at the door, and in the case of a small hotel, that person is the one who greets you and bids you farewell.
Such is the case at Culture House Hotel and the angel at the blue gate is Eleni (assisted if course by an able staff). Fluent in English, she'll also help you learn Greek, tell you all the natives' tips and "best of' recommendations, and make sure everything in this beautifully restored 19th C, Street front mansion.
I rented two side-by-side rooms which turned out to be virtual apartments! Each had a private rear patio, balconies over looking the streets and a vast view of the ocean beyond.
There was a large living room, kitchenette, shower bath and a high, groin vaulted ceiling. The beefy old wood doors and shuttered, period windows were meticulously restored with artisan hardware that worked faultlessly.
The Green efficient heat pump air conditioner cooler the entire apartment in minutes, maintaining a digitally correct setting all night.
The free breakfast was modest but adequate and the dining room a bit too small for a typical boisterous Euro crowd, so I advise arriving early to get a table with enough space for your elbows.
Finally, with an 11AM checkout before a 10PM flight home, Eleni offered to store our bags until we'd gone to the beach, fined and returned to her special lavatory-shower room to freshen up for our journey. Extra charge? Banish the thought."

"Really nice holiday villa accommodation consisting of a balcony, small kitchen area with coffee machine, fridge, cutlery and some plates/bowls etc, lovely king size bed, couch, dining table and chairs, AC and hairdryer. Basically it's kitted out very well with everything you'd need for a lovely week away, staff are lovely and can't do enough for you, very conveniently located in the heart of pyrgos with places to rent vehicles a 3-5 minute walk away, a beautiful restaurant next door, 20 paces from door to door that's open till around midnight. Can't wait to come back and stay again soon"

"Excellent host. Excellent location. Excellent views. The free breakfast was amazing and the views from our Villa were outstanding. Highly recommend Cultural House & Pyrgos in general for your stay on the island. It is a genuine city where you can experience the culture without a lot of touristy things but can still travel there easily on bus."
