What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Veste Oberhaus for its breathtaking panoramic views of Passau and its three rivers, as well as its extensive and well-curated historical museum. The fortress itself is a significant historical site. Some find the museum's detailed exhibits better suited for adults, while younger children may have shorter attention spans.
"This was an excellent museum. I was there 3 hours and didn't see everything. The room information was in English but individual items in the rooms were not. The museum covers several topics; bishops, the castle, the town, porcelain, people who lived in the Bohemian forest and more. Great views down to the old town and the 3 rivers."

"I recently visited the impressive Veste Oberhaus in Passau. Perched high above the confluence of the rivers, the views of the city were outstanding. I found the fortress itself to be an incredible historical structure, dating back to 1219, which now houses a captivating museum. The grounds are well-maintained and offer a fascinating glimpse into the past."

"We crossed the bridge, walked up and took the 5 euro bus down.
The walk was pleasant under the cover of trees. When the option comes to turn left or right - choose right because it's shorter. The other takes you to a youth camp and you have to walk down.
The Museum is a MUST! The best Burg museum that we've visited in years. Seniors 5 Euros and 1 Euro deposit for a locker which is returned and free toilets.
The collection is extensive and well curated."
