"St. Henry's Church in Kiel is an important former garrison church and is one of the city's cultural monuments. Built between 1907 and 1909, it features a remarkable architectural design that marks the beginning of modern reinforced concrete construction. The construction of the star vault and the main roof is based on the principles of Emil Mörsch, which he outlined in his textbook "Reinforced Concrete Construction."
During an air raid on Kiel on July 24, 1944, the church was 40% destroyed. It is striking that the reinforced concrete roof structure survived the attack almost unscathed. The church was rebuilt in 1948.
In 2000/2001, the church was listed as a historic monument. Until 2014, St. Henry was an independent parish. Today it belongs to the parish of St. Francis of Assisi, which includes the former parishes of St. Birgitta (Mettenhof), St. Joseph (Kiel-East, Heikendorf, Schönberg), and St. Nicholas (Kiel-Central, Kiel-South, Kronshagen). This parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Hamburg."
