What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Mariawald Abbey as a picturesque and historically significant stop, particularly for its unique abbey-made beers and foods. While the church interior is modest, the scenic Eifel surroundings and the opportunity to experience a living Trappist monastery are major draws. Some find the traditional pea soup underwhelming, but the waffles and beer are consistently recommended.
"A very nice place to stop at and have a quick peak.
If you’re lucky, you can even catch a your through the site. Very well maintained and historical.
You’ll find all kinds of people there. So don’t worry, you’ll fit right in!
There’s even a nice little shop where they sell Abbey made beers and other foods. I managed to fit some beers into my motorcycle luggage. ;)
Would definitely recommend!"

"A welcome resting point after long hike in the cold. We had the apparently famous Erbsensuppen which was a bit underwhelming. There were too many peas in it and could have been better if more vegetables were added. This was made up with the extremely delicious waffles with hot cherries, would highly recommend this one. The Trapezer beer was the cherry ;) on top, definitely worth the visit or go for a lunch! The building itself on the inside is rather limited, those interested in architecture better skip it, although the view and outside look very pittoreske."

"Small but pretty abbey in the Eifel region. Worth a visit if you are in the area, especially on clear days. The church itself is small and there are some tours you can take. The cafeteria is very old school and serves their original recipes including their own brewed beer"
