Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Gropius Bau for its impressive architecture and high-quality, diverse exhibitions, ranging from contemporary art to interactive installations. The BAUBAU children's playground is a particular hit for families. Some find ticket prices for major exhibitions to be on the higher side, and booking in advance is often necessary.

"Loved the exhibitions, the only thing is that there is only one restroom located in the -1 floor. Had to go around the exhibition to reach the restroom."

"This is one of the places for which it is absolutely pointless to leave a review, as the only constant is the building. Don't get me wrong, it is a lovely building, but you do not go to a gallery for the building. You - obviously - go to exhibitions, and these change. You might love one and hate another. The review I leave of the exhibitions now will be outdated in a very short time.

The exhibitions I saw:

Yoko Ono - in the beginning I hated it. Seeing prompts for audience without the space to create nor even pictures of what people created during the original exhibition run felt completely lacking substance. But then something changed. I started relating to the art. It made me feel (even if not all feelings were positive), it made me think, and overall it fed my soul. I understand why many dislike it; but for me it was an extremely interesting experience and definitely worth the visit.

V@g!nal Davis - that's the one I did not like. I would LOVE to see this performer live - they seem like a fantastic, interesting, larger than life persona - but the exhibition itself was more of her history than her art, and the art itself didn't speak. Is it interesting to use found objects as medium? Sure; but it doesn't help when the art created is not interesting in itself. I have to admit though that I liked some of the imagery - particularly the giant PEN is in the bed.

What I recommend: check the exhibitions that are offered and see of anything strikes your fancy, and read ONLY the most recent reviews.
I know I will probably visit again if there is something interesting enough to merit traveling from Bavaria."

"Excellent exhibitions currently, with Nancy Holt being the featured artist in the atrium.

There is a great balance between light and dark - light of finding beauty through peep holes with Nancy Holt, and the dark of projections onto gravestones and embroidered body bags upstairs. Can highly recommend - we went on Sunday afternoon and there was no wait time."
