What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for Iprali Village are mixed, with many guests highlighting the stunning natural scenery and peaceful atmosphere. However, several visitors have expressed disappointment with the perceived lack of traditional Georgian hospitality, describing hosts as reserved or business-like. Concerns have also been raised about inconsistent pricing and the quality of accommodation, particularly regarding shared bathrooms and worn-out mattresses.
"We stayed there yesterday and had bed bugs both of us 😪 we barely slept. Second, it seems like they dont like humans. No one said a lot or welcomed us, at dining time the door is opened and food waits there- they come back only after all leaves. I came twice to the house (full of the family members), twice I was told to stay out and sent a little girl who talk to you in a very business cold way. Nothibg of Georgian hospitality, we all felt like wallets. Its a shame people became this way when they host tourists."

"In Iprali, there are two guesthouses, but unfortunately, the reviews here on Google seem to mix both (you can also see this from the pictures). We stayed at Guesthouse Ucha, a large guesthouse with many rooms but only two shared bathrooms, which would likely result in long waiting times during high season.
It was the worst guesthouse we stayed at during our time in Georgia. The prices were way too high – 90 Lari per person for dinner and breakfast. While other guesthouses provided lunch for free upon request, here it would have cost an extra 10 Lari. The mattresses were completely worn out, and our room didn’t have a window.
The dinner gave my friend an upset stomach, which meant she had to cut the final day of our trek to Ushguli short and take a taxi. The food itself was average at best, and instead of the usual delicious homemade bread, they only served store-bought white bread. Overall, this guesthouse was a major disappointment."

"Owner/staff was nice and helpful, but tried to scam us by charging 90 lari per person. Real price is 80 incl. breakfast and dinner. Room was okay, and the one (!) shared bathroom was nice. Good for the low season with few guests, but must be a nightmare when the hotel is fully booked. Dinner was a huge disappoinment, while breakfast was okay. Big plus for laundry free of charge. Also, the garden is a very nice hangout."

Understanding the Guesthouse Experience
When choosing a guesthouse, pay attention to reviews that mention the number of shared bathrooms. Some larger guesthouses might only have one or two shared facilities for many rooms, which could lead to long waits, particularly during the high season. Also, be vigilant about pricing. While a standard rate might be around 80-90 Lari per person for dinner and breakfast, some guests have reported being quoted higher prices, so always confirm the exact cost upfront to avoid disputes.
Despite these potential drawbacks, some visitors still find value in Iprali. The village offers a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views, and some guesthouses do provide essential services like free laundry, which is invaluable for trekkers. If you prioritize a quiet stopover with basic amenities and stunning natural scenery, Iprali can still be a worthwhile destination, provided you approach the hospitality aspect with realistic expectations.
Navigating Food and Dining
The pricing for meals, particularly dinner and breakfast packages, can also be a point of concern. While rates around 90 Lari per person are mentioned, there are reports of guests being quoted higher prices or being charged extra for services that might be complimentary elsewhere, like lunch. It's crucial to clarify what is included in the price and to confirm the cost of any additional meals before you commit.
For those with dietary restrictions, it's advisable to communicate your needs clearly and in advance. While some guesthouses are accommodating, it's always best to ensure they can meet your requirements. The overall dining experience in Iprali is best approached with an open mind, focusing on the local flavors while being mindful of potential variations in quality and pricing.
